How to Apply

Step 1

a. You must live in Leon County, or have a Leon County case.
 

b. Your case/legal issue is one in which our office will handle as stated below:

  • Paternity

  • Adoption (Step-Parents)

  • Divorce

  • Child Support

  • Custody/Visitation

  • Expungement

  • Wills

  • Landlord/Tenant

  • Probate (Advice & Counsel Only)

  • Property (Advice & Counsel Only)

  • Foreclosure (Advice & Counsel Only)

Step 2

  1. Download the LAF Fillable PDF Application linked below

  2. Save as the following file name: FirstName.LastName – LAF App (If mobile law for all, then save as  FirstName.LastName – MLFA LAF App)

  3. Then Close

  4. Open the saved file in Acrobat/PDF Reader

  5. Type your information into the form

  6. Save

  7. Email Document to intake@legalaidtallahassee.org

The application must be completed in full including your original or electronic signature. Our office will not accept nor review partially completed applications.

Completed applications can be scanned and emailed, or mailed or hand-delivered to the address below. The office does not have a fax.

A drop box is located outside of our office if you come by outside of business hours.

It is checked daily.

Step 3

Because of the number of applications we receive, please allow 5-7 business days for your application to be processed and follow up with a phone call to 850-222-3292 to make sure yours was received. We understand the importance of your legal issue/case, but we ask for your patience as the demand unfortunately exceeds the number of volunteers available.

Step 4

​Once you are notified that you have been found eligible for the Pro Bono Legal Service program you will need to make an appointment with our Pro Bono Coordinator. Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Information about the income and expenses of everyone living in the household

  • Any court papers, leases, or contracts that relate to your legal matter

  • The names and addresses of the people involved with your problem

No application is denied for reasons of race, sex, creed, color, religion, age, national origin, marital status, disability, or sexual orientation.
